I had an accident skateboarding in Barcelona . I'll explain/edit later when my hands feel better.
This is mainly a reminder to myself to write about it.
p.s. this is what my hands look like
We went down to beach on boards and longboarded along the coast through these perfectly smoothed out parks paralleling the water. Eventually we would up at the forum which is this failed architectural plan to great a HUGE public space for cultural integration. The neighborhood is much less community oriented than the older parts of the city, there's many more large high rises that are mostly apartments. The space failed because no one uses it and it's HUGE. Seriously vast smooth concrete hills.
So after spending an hour or so drifting and carving and kick and falling we decide to leave. The only exit is down this big hill. So instead of walking down it, I decide why not? let's skate. I try to carve side to side to avoid turning into a bullet straight down the hill, but I failed. Eventually my curves became smaller and smaller as I picked up too much speed. I was getting close to the street and saw no way of avoiding hitting the ground before I fly into traffic so I tried to bail. To no avail. I rolled a few feet and ripped a hole in my pants as well as a nice crucifixtion mark in my left hand.
The scab ithes like hell-- ha. But I'm glad it happened. It will make all other falls on a longboard less painful. I actually think I'd like a longboard of my own.
Barcelona is still awesome.
