So today I had an unfortunate biking trauma. As with most accidents it was series of oversights that compounded into 15 minutes of street side performance at my expense. The setup began the night before, when I for some unknown reason couldn't manage to fall asleep until 4 am and even then, only managed to stay asleep ineffectual 20 minute intervals. In a less eloquent format, this is what happened, as dictated by me to the friend whom I was helping at the time of the incident:
"so i went to sleep so late and i forgot that i promised a friend i'd sit for a package he's expecting at his house early in the morning. I wake up late for that, have to catch a bus with my bike-- not so bad. Until the bus is late and these kids show up with 2 bikes too. A bus can only hold 2 bikes at a time so i felt horrible the whole ride for making one of the kids wait for another, but i was already running late. Then i get to the stop im getting off at and i get my bike off and start to cross the street when my ipod headfones fall off the side of my basket somehow and are dragging on the ground. I'm too nervous to stop in the middle of the intersection and pick it up, so risk the headfone damage and make my way to the corner to fix it-- an embarrassing moment in the middle of the intersection I'll have you know. So i start to head off across the next street and my quick release for the back wheel comes loose! And at that same moment my pedal gets caught on my shoelace. So yet again i was stuck in an awkward position and i had hardly made it 5 ft from where I got off the bus. i fixed the wheel, i thought, and tried again-- the same thing happened again. Finally, after much frustration I fixed it. Then I started the ride, but i noticed a squeek....by tires weren't aligned because the quick release wasn't fastened well so the tire rubbed against the frame and squeeked the whole ride there. Then i notice my fone and sunglasses starting fall out of my basket too so i try to tuck them back in the basket really quickly and instead my fone falls and the back cover and battery go flying. I have to stop, walk back, pick it up, and in the process lose the covering for the back of the fone because i can't find it! Ahh, so by the time i get to my friends house im pretty annoyed and guess what i realize? The delivery man already came, he left a note on the door. I missed the package and i went through all this crap for nothing!! "
So I ended up taking my bicycle to the shop for a MUCH needed repair and did the works. Even gave her a new seat! I have a week left in Miami before my bike rides become a completely new experience. I think I'll play with my familiarity with Miami in the next few days.
