first ride, first flat

I rode for the first time in a little more than a month today. Went to work in the shady part of town to volunteer at the boys and girls club tutoring essentially black children. The center is in the heart of Sarasota's version of black projects, but the streets are disastrous! I got a flat 3 minutes into my ride back to campus. I was 3 miles from school and there was no way I'd walk the whole way with the threat of gray clouds above me, so I daringly rode basically on a bare frame... nervous at every tiny bump i passed that I'd irreparably dent my wheel. Alas! I made it. Rode 6 miles. I intend on doing that at least 4 times a week, so that's about 24 miles a week. Not bad for not having ridden in a month, but I hope to ride for leisure on the weekends too, so that number may change.

Looks like the count is up to 6 miles in Sarasota. Pictures to come at some point, I hope...
